Former England manager appears to turn back on football as leaked job title emerges

after reportedly confirming his new profession.

The former said he'd not be back in a managerial role for at least a year and appears to be extending that hiatus, with his latest role being as a "company director", according to The Sun.

Sir Southgate's last match in charge of was the 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, back in July 2024, and the 54-year-old is yet to return to the dugout despite links to vacant positions in England and abroad.

Documents belonging to MAS Inv­estment Holdings Limited, a company which handles Southgate's £6.2million property portfolio, show the former national team boss has changed his profession from “football manager” to “company director”, The Sun alleges.

Many have speculated on what footballing project would appeal to him, with some speculating a sporting director role might better suit Southgate, while, as Gary Lineker said after the Euro 2024 final: "I suspect this might be his last game in management.”

Most recently, bookies had him down as favourite for the Manchester United managerial job before Ruben Amorim's appointment, and some still have low odds on him to replace the struggling Portuguese head coach.

Instead, Sir Gareth has held roles as a technical observer for European football’s ruling body UEFA and as a visiting lecturer at Harvard Business School.

He is also understood to be writing a self-help book focusing on leadership, likely to touch upon his eight years in charge of the England national team.

England reached consecutive Euro finals under Southgate, losing to Italy in 2021 and Spain in 2024. He also reached the World Cup semi-final in 2018.

Prior to landing the national job, the 54-year-old spent three years in charge of the England U21s and his managerial role was with Middlesbrough from 2006 to 2009.
