Mikel Arteta teases Arsenal transfer announcement as Eberechi Eze sent thinly veiled dig

Arsenal only have a week or so to finalise any remaining business before the transfer window shuts. Once the Gunners wrap up a deal for Eberechi Eze, they will have spent more than £250m on new players this summer, despite having made just £7m in sales.

So, in order to balance the books, Andrea Berta must find new clubs for those who are surplus to requirements in the next couple of days. Jakub Kiwior, Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson all face uncertain futures at the Emirates Stadium.

As do, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Albert Sambi Lokonga, who have both recently entered the final year of their respective contracts. There's a lot of work to be done in north London, but Berta has more than enough time to get his house in order.

Frank aims dig at Eze after Tottenham U-turn

Thomas Frank has aimed a thinly veiled dig at Eze, who snubbed Tottenham Hotspur in favour of Arsenal. The Lilywhites also failed to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest earlier in the summer.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday afternoon's clash against Manchester City, the Spurs boss said: "There's been a lot of rumours - and a lot of times where there's nothing in it.

"There must be someone out there who thinks it's good fun to put the rumours out there. There's been a lot of links and will continue to be. To be very general, I don't want any players who don't want to come to the club.

"If they don't want to come here and wear this fantastic badge, we don't want them here. That's very clear, and I imagine the fans feel exactly the same. That's a key message."

Arteta teases Trossard announcement

Arteta has all but confirmed that Leandro Trossard will sign a new contract at Arsenal. According to the BBC, the 30-year-old winger has signed a deal that secures him a lucrative pay rise.

The report claims that the new contract doesn't extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium, and it'll still run until June 2027. Speaking to reporters on Friday, the Spaniard said: "I prefer not to because it's not my duty.

"I'm really, really happy with Leo. That situation has been resolved in a really great way and I think he deserves our recognition. We are really happy to have him."

football.london says: "I can understand why Arsenal have given him a pay rise, although they were wrong to not extend his stay. The Gunners should've at least added a year or two onto his current deal just to protect his market value a bit.

"But with Trossard linked with a move away from the club this summer, the announcement of his new contract will be huge."

Howe provides Isak update

Eddie Howe has provided an update on Alexander Isak's future at Newcastle United. The 25-year-old striker was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal before Andrea Berta signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting.

"I think it is a lose-lose situation to a degree for us because I don't think we can come out of this winning in any situation," said the Magpies boss. "That is why I have said all summer, it is a difficult situation for the club to manage.

"We love Alex in the sense of what he has done for this football club since he has been here, what he has contributed, what he has given, how professional he's been and this has just been an unfortunate few months that looks like it is coming to an end.

"And it will come to an end pretty quickly and then we can focus on the football again..."
