Hujic recounted a story of walking into a Bali café and spotting a man who looked just like the former bank chief. She wrote about gathering the courage to approach him, convinced she had just met Piyush Gupta himself. The two reportedly even spoke about her initiative to lead an all-women trek across a frozen Mongolian lake for charity.

The story took a turn when Gupta himself replied directly to Hujic’s post. “Sorry to disillusion you. That isn’t me!” he wrote, putting to rest any speculation about his presence in Bali. Gupta, who headed DBS Bank from 2009 until 2025, quickly clarified that he had not been part of the meeting she described.
