"West Bengal govt should see that such incidents shouldn't happen": BJP MP Arun Govil on Murshidabad violence

Hapur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 19 (ANI): BJP MP Arun Govil expressed concern on Saturday over the recent violence in Murshidabad related to the Waqf Amendment Act, stating that the West Bengal government must ensure such incidents do not recur.
Speaking to ANI, Govil alleged that there are claims suggesting the involvement of the state government itself, which he warned is harmful for the nation.
"West Bengal government should see that such an incident (Murshidabad violence) shouldn't happen. However, it is also alleged that the West Bengal government itself is involved in such activities, which is not beneficial for the country. Waqf Amendment bill has been passed by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha - it was brought with a good thinking for the poor Muslims and those castes in Muslims who have been exploited," the BJP MP said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the National Commission of Women, led by its Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, on Saturday visited the violence-affected Murshidabad area and said it will submit its report to the Centre.

Rahatkar said the commission will put forth the demands of the people before the government.
Speaking to mediapersons here, Rahatkar said "The suffering these people are going through is inhuman. We will put their demands in front of the government..."
Rahatkar arrived in Kolkata on Thursday evening to lead an inquiry into the recent violence. She is part of the probe committee constituted by the NCW, which is on a three-day visit to affected areas in West Bengal, including Malda and Murshidabad.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose also met victims of the Murshidabad violence.
Speaking to the media, Bose said, "They (victims) want to have a sense of security and certainly some other demands or whatever suggestions given by them. All this will be considered. I will take it up with the Government of India and the State Government for appropriate action. I'll follow it up. I once asked them to feel free to talk to me directly. The phone number has also been given. We'll be in touch with them. Certainly, very effective proactive steps will be taken."
The visit comes in the wake of violence that erupted on April 11 during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which resulted in the deaths of three people, injuries to several others, and widespread property damage. Several families have been displaced, with many migrating to Jharkhand's Pakur district, while others have taken refuge in relief camps set up in Malda. (ANI)
