A young pregnant woman was murdered in Medipally on Saturday evening, allegedly by her husband. Police said the man strangled his 21-year-old wife at their rented home around 4.30 pm after a quarrel escalated. The accused, a 27-year-old driver with a ride-hailing company, then dismembered her body.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri Zone) P V Padmaja said, “In order to conceal the evidence, he chopped the body into pieces using a hexa blade, disposed of the head, hands, and legs by throwing them into the Musi river at Prathapsingaram, and retained the headless and legless trunk in his room.”
She added that the accused wrapped the body parts in small plastic bags and made three separate trips to the river to dispose of them.
Cover-up attempt and confession
After the crime, the accused phoned his sister and claimed that his wife was missing. Suspicion was raised, and a relative brought him to the police station. DCP Padmaja told reporters, “He again tried to portray the murder as a missing incident, but during questioning he confessed of killing his wife.”
Police registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and took him into custody.
Post-mortem and search efforts
The dismembered torso was recovered from the house and sent for post-mortem. “We have to ascertain the deceased (is wife of the accused) and a DNA test will be conducted,” said Padmaja.
Search operations are underway in the Musi river. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and swimmers from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have been deployed, though no body parts have been found so far.
Marriage and disputes
Both the accused and the victim were from Vikarabad district, where they grew up as neighbours. They were married through a love-cum-arranged ceremony in January this year at Arya Samaj. Soon after, they moved to Boduppal in Hyderabad.
Their marriage, police said, turned turbulent within weeks. In April, the woman filed a domestic violence complaint in Vikarabad. The matter was later settled through intervention by village elders.
The woman had briefly worked at a call centre in Punjagutta, but her husband stopped her from continuing after he grew suspicious of her movements. She conceived in March this year, but arguments persisted between them.
On 22 August, she informed her husband that she wanted to visit Vikarabad for a medical check-up and then stay with her parents. Police said the husband objected, and during the quarrel she abused him. On the same day, he decided to kill her.
The accused remains in custody while searches continue in the river. Police have not yet recovered the missing body parts. The investigation is ongoing.
