Forget diets or gym. Ram Kapoor lost 55 kilos weight with mindset shift that changed his life forever

For years, actor Ram Kapoor battled weight issues that many can relate to. At one point, he weighed 140 kilos and struggled with a host of health problems. In a candid chat with Cyrus Broacha, Ram opened up about his journey—from multiple failed attempts at weight loss to finally shedding 55 kilos and maintaining it. But what changed this time wasn’t a new diet or an intense workout plan. It was his mindset.

Ram shared that he had previously lost 30 kilos, twice. But both times, he gained it all back. Why? Because diets, according to him, are temporary. “Any diet is temporary and requires willpower,” he explained.

What was the game-changer in his weight loss journey?
The real game-changer came when he stopped chasing short-term fixes and instead committed to changing his mindset entirely. He realised that true transformation isn't about dieting—it's about becoming a different person altogether.

“There are two types of people,” he said. “Healthy people and unhealthy people. And they’re entirely different.” For Ram, the key was to start thinking, acting, and living like healthy people do. That meant adopting new habits for life, not just for a few months. He pointed out that people with healthy lifestyles have different daily routines, different eating habits, and a different way of looking at life. Once he embraced that mindset, everything else started falling into place.

His eating habits
Ram now follows a simple eating routine: two meals a day—one at around 10:30 a.m. and the other at 6:30 p.m. He avoids all snacking and strictly eats nothing after sunset. Water, tea, or coffee are allowed in between, but that’s it. Even when out socialising late into the night, he sticks to this rule. “You don’t eat after sunset, period,” he emphasised.

Ram Kapoor’s weight loss
Ram Kapoor’s impressive weight loss of 55 kilograms in 18 months was driven by health, not career pressures. Even at 140 kg during projects like Neeyat and Jubilee, audiences embraced him, but declining health made everyday tasks difficult. Struggling with diabetes, a foot injury, and limited mobility, turning 50 became a wake-up call. Determined to set a better example for his children, Ram overhauled his mindset, lifestyle, and habits, ultimately bringing his weight down to 85 kg. He achieved this transformation naturally, without surgery or external aids, choosing discipline and a complete lifestyle reset instead.
