Leaving behind a high-paying job is rarely an easy decision, especially after years of building a successful career. But for one Bengaluru professional, the choice became clear when his wife was expecting their first child. He decided that being by her side and managing the home during this phase was worth more than any paycheque, even one worth Rs 1.2 crore a year.

From Zero to Rs 7 Crore in Seven Years

The man, who shared his story on Reddit, revealed that he started with no degree and worked his way up over seven years in various startups, building and leading go-to-market (GTM) teams. Over time, he earned more than Rs 7 crore in total career earnings.

His most recent role was in sales leadership with a work-from-home setup, a comfortable salary package, and a home in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar. Despite the perks, he decided to step back from his professional life when his wife became pregnant two months ago.

Choosing Family Over Career

Initially, he suggested that his wife take a year off to focus on the pregnancy, but she preferred to keep working with reduced hours. This prompted him to make the decision to leave his own job so he could take on full household responsibilities.

He explained that he now manages all domestic chores, tends to their garden, accompanies his wife on walks, and has arranged for both sets of parents to stay with them for support.

The former executive expressed that having the financial security and professional network to return to work later makes the choice even easier. He believes that “being present when your partner, children, or parents need you matters more than anything else,” adding that earning a high salary is not worth missing out on these "special moments".

The post received widespread appreciation from Reddit users, with many calling him an example of “husband goals.” In response, he credited his wife as the truly remarkable one, describing her as hardworking, understanding, and someone he has known since school for over 15 years.

He also engaged with users curious about his career journey, sharing that breaking into tech sales doesn’t require a college degree. He advised beginners to start as Sales Development Representatives (SDRs), though he cautioned that the role involves significant cold calling before progressing up the ladder. For those unable to take on such tasks, he suggested exploring sales or revenue operations roles, which are currently in demand.
