Pitru Paksha 2025: Shradh Paksha runs from the full moon of Bhadrapada to the new moon of Ashwin month, which is also called Pitru Paksha. If you are going to perform Shradh, Tarpan, or Pinddaan of your ancestors during this time, then also know that according to the scriptures, at which place Shradh should not be performed and at which place performing Shradh is considered auspicious. Performing Shradh at these 4 places is prohibited.

Dev Sthan: Shradh should not be performed inside or in the premises of any temple or any other Devasthan because it is Devbhoomi. Select the place only on the advice of a Pandit or scholar.

Unholy land: Shradh is not performed even on land that is becoming impure in any way. Shradh should not be performed even on thorny land or barren land. Shradh should not be performed even where people go to defecate in the open, even if that land has been purified.

Other people's land: One should not perform Shraddha on someone else's personal land. If Shraddha has to be performed at someone else's house or land, then rent or dakshina should be given to the landowner.

Cremation ground: Shraddha cannot be performed in any cremation ground that is not considered a pilgrimage. Some cremation grounds in the country are considered pilgrimage places. For example, Ujjain's Chakratirth cremation ground has the status of a pilgrimage place. However, perform Shraddha at such places only if you are forced to do so. However, before performing Shraddha at a pilgrimage cremation ground, definitely consult a scholar.

Shraddha can be performed at any one of these 8 places.

Riverbank: Shraddha can be performed on the banks of any holy river or river confluence at the appropriate time with due rituals.

Tirth area: Shraddha can be performed at any pilgrimage place mentioned in the scriptures. There are more than 64 places for Shraddha Tarpan across the country, including Gaya, Nashik, and Ujjain.
Sea: Shraddha can be performed on the seashore as well. However, for this, perform Shraddha rituals only after selecting a holy place on the seashore.

Home: It will be better if you perform Shraddha rituals at your home. If special Shraddha rituals are to be performed for the salvation of ancestors, then only select places like the river bank or Gaya should be used.

Banyan: Shraddha rituals can be performed under the holy Vat Vriksha, i.e., Banyan tree, provided there is no Dev Sthan (place of deity) there.

Cowshed: Shraddha can be performed in a cowshed where bulls are not tied, by purifying the appropriate place by smearing it with cow dung.

Mountain: Shraddha can be performed on any holy mountain peak, even without the place of the deity.

Forest: Shraddha can be performed in any small or big forest by finding a suitable place, cleaning it, and performing it as per rituals.
