'Congress Is Equating India With Pakistan': EAM S Jaishankar Slams Opposition During Operation Sindoor Debate In Rajya Sabha (VIDEO)

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched a sharp attack on the Congress during a special discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha on Day 8 of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session.

“Congress is equating India with Pakistan,” Jaishankar said, accusing the Opposition of undermining India’s global position by drawing "false parallels" between the two nations.

Leading the government’s response, Jaishankar revisited a string of past terror attacks, including 26/11 in Mumbai and the 2008 Delhi blasts, saying India had long been a victim of cross-border terrorism. Referring to the controversial Havana statement of 2006, he said, “Instead of holding Pakistan responsible, we said we condemn all forms of terrorism... and resumed our composite dialogue.”

Jaishankar On Indus Waters Treaty

On the Indus Water Treaty, Jaishankar added, “The Indus Water Treaty will be held in abeyance until Pakistan irrevocably gives up its support of terrorism... Blood and water will not flow together.” He also highlighted the exceptional nature of the treaty and said, "I cannot think of any agreement in the world where a country has allowed its major rivers to flow to the next country without having rights on that river.”

While Jaishankar accused the Congress of blurring lines between India and Pakistan, the Opposition maintained that their criticism was aimed at the global perception, not an internal comparison.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, “Not one neighbouring country has condemned Pakistan. Not one. And our Defence Minister didn’t even mention China in his speech. That silence says it all.”

He further questioned the state of Indian diplomacy, “Why has India been hyphenated with Pakistan? Why didn’t a single country back us in condemning Pakistan? They only condemned terrorism. Who asked Trump to ‘mediate’ between India and Pakistan?”

Gandhi also cited how global powers, including the US, continued engaging with Pakistan’s military leadership. “While India is running around the world saying that Pakistan has done terrorism, America is having lunch with Asim Munir and talking about how PAK can help them fight terrorism,” he remarked.

The Rajya Sabha discussion follows an 18-hour-long debate in the Lok Sabha, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave Pakistan a stern warning that Operation Sindoor will continue.
