Indore (Madhya Pradesh): What was supposed to be a night of fun turned into an unimaginable tragedy when a 23-year-old software engineer lost her life, and her friend was critically injured, after a truck rammed into their bike near Kelod Kartal Phata on Bypass Road late Saturday night.
The deceased, Astha Singh, a resident of Kanpur who had recently moved to Indore for work, was riding pillion on a bike with her friend Jitendra Jat, a resident of Ratlam. Both were employed with the same company and were on their way to a restaurant to join friends for a party when the horrific accident happened.
Their friends, who were riding ahead on separate bikes, realised something had gone wrong only when they stopped and looked back — and saw people rushing toward the crash site.
According to police, a speeding truck coming from behind hit Astha and Jitendra's bike near Kelod Phata, leaving both with critical injuries. Bystanders immediately alerted emergency services and helped rush them to the hospital. They were referred to MY Hospital, where Astha succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Jitendra’s condition remains critical, officials said.

The driver of the truck fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police are now examining CCTV footage from the area and have launched a search to nab the driver.
Astha, who was living in the Kesarbagh area, had recently begun building a life in Indore with a promising tech career ahead of her. Her tragic and untimely death has left her family, friends, and colleagues in deep shock.
Police are also recording the statements of friends who were part of the group ride to understand the exact sequence of events.

In another heartbreaking accident on Saturday evening, a Kawad Yatri, returning from Omkareshwar with holy water for offering at Devguradia temple, was killed after being hit by a car on Khandwa Road.
The deceased, Ashish Harsure (35), was a resident of Musakhedi in Indore and originally from Khandwa. He and other devotees had collected Narmada Jal and were walking back to the city when tragedy struck in the Simrol area.
He was taken to a hospital but sadly died during treatment. Simrol police have begun investigating and are trying to trace the driver of the vehicle responsible for the hit-and-run.
