Badnawar (Madhya Pradesh): Villagers blocked Badnawar-Sardarpur Road on Saturday morning by placing a man's body in front of Rajod police station, causing two-kilometre-long traffic jam in both directions.
The protest followed death of 50-year-old Girdhari Osari of Nandlai village. Osari was severely beaten three to four days earlier by in-laws of woman named Aarti who eloped with another man just after her marriage. After being hospitalised for his injuries, he died.
Girdhari's family claims police refused to file their complaint properly, only giving them a form. After this, the girl's in-laws attacked their family. Despite repeated visits to the station, police only said they are working on it.
According to reports, Punamchandra Osari, a resident of Nandlai village, was sitting in his courtyard on afternoon of April 15 when Rai Singh Katija, from Kagadipura village, arrived with a group of people. Rai Singh began to argue with Punamchandra's family over Aarti.
During the confrontation, Girdhari, a neighbour, stepped in to mediate but was attacked by the accused. On April 17, the police registered an assault case against Bhagirath, Raichandra, Devram and Bijal based on a complaint filed by Shardabai, Punamchandra's wife.
Senior police officials arrived at the scene to address the situation. After assurances that action would be taken against the perpetrators, protesters agreed to end their blockade and clear the road.
Rajputs stop Dalit wedding procession entering temple
Badnawar (Madhya Pradesh): Tension arose in Sakatli village after Rajput community members objected to a Dalit wedding procession visiting the Lord Ram temple on Friday evening.
Rajput community members claimed that they did not want the Dalit procession to visit the temple as many of them were in an inebriated state, moreover, the Rajputs had funded the temple’s construction.
As the two groups came face to face, police inspector Amit Singh Kushwaha and tehsildar Suresh Nagar reached to prevent any escalation.

Through mediation of community elders, police and administration including Balai Mahasangh state president Manoj Parmar, the situation was peacefully resolved.
The groom and procession members were permitted to visit the temple and pay obeisance. Even after resolution of the matter, police remained stationed along the procession route until the wedding procession moved from the temple area.
