The A1 has been forced to close in both directions following a three-vehicle which saw a car mounting the pavement and smashing into a café earlier this morning.
The road shut following the crash, which took place at around 7.45am this morning. Three vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash, with the scene taped off by police and debris scattered across the road. Emergency services quickly rushed to the scene where four people were treated for their injuries. One of the cars involved in the crash ploughed into an outdoor seating area at a nearby café, confirmed. Two of the four people treated at the scene were taken to while the other two were taken to a 'major trauma centre' - their conditions are not known at this stage.
The crash happened on the A1 in the Upper Street area of Islington, popular for shopping and dining with plenty of restaurants and cafés lining the street. The car that mounted the pavement appears to have crashed into Pera Schnitzel Garden on Upper Street.

Taking to their , Pera shared screengrabs of news articles on the crash with the caption: "There was a car accident right in front of our shop today, and unfortuantely, we've learned that there were some injuries. We're sending out heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to everyone involved.
"We'll be closed for the day as a result of the incident. Thank you for your understanding, and we're truly sorry for the inconvenience. Take care, and we hope to see you tomorrow."
A stretch of the road has closed as a result of the crash, from the junction with Florence Street to the junction with Islington Park Street and Canonbury Lane. As a result of the road closure, traffic is heavy through the area, especially on the approach to the closure from St Mary's Church to Ottolenghi and the Post Office. A diversion is in place affecting bus routes 4, 19, 30, and 43, which are being rerouted while emergency teams work at the scene.

A spokesperson fro the Metropolitan Police said: "We are currently dealing with a three-vehicle road traffic collision on Upper Street in Islington. One vehicle collided with outdoor seating at a nearby café. Officer sremain at the scene and are working to assess the circumstances."
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7.57am this morning (Thursday April 10) to reports of a road traffic collision in Upper Street, Islington. We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and London's Air Ambulance.
"The first of our crews arrived in one minute. Our crews treated four patients at the scene, before taking two to a London major trauma centre and two to hospital."
A traffic update from the AA read; "Road closed and slow traffic due to crash investigation work on A1 Upper Street both ways between Canonbury Land and Barnsbury Street (Islington Town Hall). Congestion to traffic on diversion via Essex Road Station."
