BBC viewers spot emotional King Charles moment minutes into VE Day 80 concert

BBC viewers all said the same thing as they tuned into the highly-anticipated VE Day 80 celebrations.

A spectacular live concert to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day took place from the iconic Horse Guards Parade in London on Thursday (May 8) evening.

Before host Zoe Ball took to the stage to present the gig, and took to their seats in the Royal Box next to several war veterans.

King Charles sat down next to 107-year-old World War 2 bomber pilot Harry Richardson who didn't waste time in chatting to His Royal Highness before the gig kicked off.

The sweet moment didn't go unnoticed by viewers at home, with one fan writing on X, formerly known as : "I'm the furthest from a royalist/monarchist, but if fills my heart with such joy seeing a 107 year old veteran centre stage at these VE Day celebrations next to the King. I know how much it would mean to these war heroes! #VEDay."

Another added: "Harry Richardson a Veteran of the War, is 107 years old! Quite remarkable. Chatting away to the King. As the sun sets on this VE Day, a wonderful Concert gets underway."

A third person said: "Watching some of the WW2 veterans 105, 107. Honestly, they are as sharp as pins. I’ve cried countless times, they really are something special #VEDay80."

A fourth said: ""#VEDay80 watching the show on . I can never love my country more. We are the greatest on planet Earth. Everyone who died for my country - I love you more than words can say."

professionals Amy Dowden, Carlos Gu, Karen Hauer, Neil Jones, Lauren Oakley, and Kai Widdrington took to the stage with breathtaking choreography to accompany Fleur East's spectacular opening to the concert.

The star-studded line-up featured performances from Samantha Barks, John Newman, Victor Ray, Freya Ridings, Keala Settle alongside cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Calum Scott, The Darkness, Toploader, Tom Walker and legendary classical singer Sir Willard White.

In addition to the musical performances, the concert will also showcased appearances from a host of award winning performers.

Dames Joan Collins, Mary Berry, and Sheila Hancock also lent their voices to the commemoration while actor Brian Cox delivered a powerful reenactment of Winston Churchill’s iconic wartime speech.
