Chelsea have carried on with their spend, spend, spend transfer policy after confirming the £55m signing of Jamie Gittens.
England under-21 starlet Gittens, 20, joins on a seven year contract after saying his farewells to Borussia Dortmund. Gittens has already been with the Chelsea squad at the Club World Cup after Dortmund agreed the deal last week.
It follows Chelsea’s capture of Joao Pedro for £60m from Brighton while Liam Delap made his debut at the Club World Cup following his £30m move from Ipswich.
Chelsea have spent over £1billion in transfer fees in the Todd Boehly ownership and were fined nearly £30m by UEFA on Friday - with a further fine hanging over them if they do not comply - but that has not stopped their spending.
Gittens said: “It feels great. It’s a great feeling to join such a big club as Chelsea. I can’t wait to learn from everyone in the team and to push myself to the max here. It’s an amazing feeling.”

Chelsea will now have to start offloading with big doubts over the futures of Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson.
Gittens, 20, was seen on the pitch along with several other Chelsea players after their 2-1 win over Palmeiras in the Club World Cup quarter-finals on Friday night.
And his capture was confirmed just hours later in an official club statement from the Blues. Dortmund had confirmed a deal was done prior to the weekend.
The club's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, said: "The talks with Chelsea were challenging, but ultimately we are pleased that we can most likely realise our financial ambitions and then have planning security.
"Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of pleasure. He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success."
Gittens played 107 games for the Bundesliga giants after joining them from Manchester City as a teenager back in 2020. He scored 17 goals and registered a further 14 assists during his time with the club.
