Coldplay kicked off thefirst of 10 sold-out nights at Wembley - with a cheeky nod to the “kiss cam” moment in the US which went viral. Chris Martin spotted a man in the 80,000-strong crowd on Friday night with a sign saying he wanted to propose to his partner.
As the camera panned in on him, and the woman, Chris joked: “Now listen my brother I need you to nod as I do some very basic security checks ok? Is this person your partner, yes? Noone else’s partner?”
The joke was in reference to his July 16 concert in Boston where Coldplay's kiss cam appeared to expose an extra-marital affair. The camera had panned to Andy Byron, then CEO of New York tech firm Astronomer, and his colleague Kristin Cabot, the company’s Chief People Officer. "Either they're having an affair or they're just really shy,” Chris said at the time. They both quit their roles.
There was no such kisscam drama this time around. But the scenes playing out at Wembley were just as intoxicating.
Fans were treated to a spectacular show that was a feast for the senses. A sea of LED wristbands lit up the famous arches as part of a light-show in perfect sync with the music. The dazzling visuals went hand in hand with a scintillating set list that included Clocks, Viva La Vida and Paradise.

But there were also stripped-down songs without the pyrotechnics. Introducing Don’t Panic, Chris said: “This is how we used to play in (guitarist) Jonny’s bedroom in Camden around his s***** sofa and we would stop to watch Neighbours, and The Fast Show and things like that.”
And a rare outing of Trouble - from the same debut album - saw Chris pluck an autistic boy from the audience who sat next to him on the piano. It was highly stirring stuff.
Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour is now the highest attended in rock history with more than 12m tickets sold. After this performance, you can see why….
