Donald Trump reportedly wished Jeffrey Epstein a happy 50th birthday, telling the paedophile, “may every day be another wonderful secret”.
Calls were being made today for the US President to resign as more details of his friendship with the late Wall Street financier, contained in a trove of material reportedly compiled in a leather-bound album by Ghislaine Maxwell, continue to emerge. He is facing another political storm after the Wall Street Journal published explosive claims that he sent Prince Andrew's pal Epstein a birthday letter featuring a drawing of a naked woman, telling his then-pal they shared “certain things in common”.
The President hassparked a civil war among his once-loyal supporters who are refusing to accept his claim that a “client list” of the late paedophile does not exist. The scandal exploded after the Department of Justice declared there would be no further Epstein-related charges. The decision came just weeks after Elon Musk, once a close ally of the US leader, said Trump was named in the Epstein documents.

The Journal reports the letter was discovered by US Justice Department investigators probing Epstein’s inner circle. The document, apparently from 2003 and written to mark Epstein’s 50th birthday, was allegedly typewritten and framed by the outline of a naked woman, drawn in permanent marker, with Trump’s signature positioned beneath her waist, resembling pubic hair.
“A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday - and may every day be another wonderful secret,” the letter reportedly ends. In the note, the president is said to have written a cryptic message to Epstein, stating: “We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.” Trump furiously denied the story, calling it a fabrication and threatening legal action against the newspaper.
“This is not me. This is a fake thing. It’s a fake Wall Street Journal story,” he said. “I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women. It’s not my language. It’s not my words. I’m going to sue the Wall Street Journal just like I sued everyone else,” he added.
On his Truth Social platform on Thursday night, the president erupted further, calling the paper a “disgusting and filthy rag”. “The press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don’t even exist,” he wrote. “(The Wall Street Journal) has truly turned out to be a ‘disgusting and filthy rag’ and, writing defamatory lies like this, shows their desperation to remain relevant.”
Many took to social media to demand that Trump resign. One X user wrote: “Trump went from claiming it's ‘all just a hoax' to demanding Epstein's 'grand jury rape testimony,' PROVING TRUMP LIED THAT IT'S ALL A HOAX. Trump is relegated to lying and manufacturing a cover-up. RESIGN.” Another added: “I don't believe a damn thing coming out of this administration. They have lied too much and they have no credibility. Release the Epstein files and resign Trump”
The fallout has reportedly driven a wedge between Trump and his long-time media ally Rupert Murdoch, whose Wall Street Journal and New York Post have in recent months adopted a more critical tone towards the president. According to senior Republicans, the publication of the Epstein letter story may signal an irreversible wound in the pair’s relationship. “The timing, the content, the tone, this is Murdoch finally breaking the glass,” one strategist told the Mirror.
Trump responded by demanding the release of grand jury testimony relating to the Epstein case. “Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney-General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval. This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!” he posted.
Bondi instantly responded: “President Trump - we are ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts.” But critics have argued that what Trump is suggesting Bondi release is just a small portion of the files that they likely have on Epstein's crimes. The Journal has not publicly released the letter or the accompanying artwork, prompting scepticism from Trump allies and right-wing figures.
JD Vance, the US vice president, was among those who rushed to the president’s defence, calling the report “complete and utter bulls***”. “The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it,” he wrote. “Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?”
The Justice Department and FBI have declined to confirm whether the letter was reviewed as part of their recent internal investigation, which concluded that Epstein did not maintain a “client list” and that no further documents would be released. In a memo earlier this month, the Trump administration reaffirmed that Epstein had died by suicide in his Manhattan jail cell - a finding that has infuriated Trump’s MAGA base, many of whom believe Epstein was silenced to protect powerful figures.
In a rare rebuke of his own supporters, he lashed out at those demanding transparency. “It’s all been a big hoax. It’s perpetrated by the Democrats and some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net, and so they try and do the Democrats’ work,” he said on Wednesday.
The president has long been dogged by his links to Epstein, with whom he was acquainted for more than a decade until their friendship reportedly ended in a dispute over a 2004 real estate. In a now-infamous 2002 New York magazine profile, Trump was quoted as saying: “I’ve known Jeff [Epstein] for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he liked beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
Senior Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and even Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, have joined calls for the release of all files related to Epstein. “Transparency is essential,” she said in a Fox News interview yesterday.
Epstein took his own life in August 2019 as he was being held in jail ahead of child sex trafficking charges.
