Viewers tuning into 's latest episode were left wondering who was in the hospital bed, as John Sugden visited a mystery patient.
The twist comes amid new flashbacks and details set to be revealed about John's past, and what he's hiding. In a scene kept secret until the episode aired, John's struggles led him to a hospital where he visited a mystery man and spoke rather menacingly at him.
The unidentified man was in a coma, and John asked what he was going to have to do about him. It followed concern from John's sister Victoria Sugden and his fiancé Aaron Dingle.
With John making mistakes at work and seeming distracted, he confided in Victoria about a time in the army where he medicated someone and they had a bad reaction. He's been talking in his sleep and concerning Aaron with his behaviour, with John claiming this was down to what happened with Anthony Fox.
But things took a sinister turn at the end of Wednesday's episode when he went to see the unknown man who was unconscious. He made the eerie comment suggesting he was trying to cover up whatever had happened.

Witnessing the scenes, fans were suddenly convinced they knew exactly what was going on and who the man was. Viewers predicted it could be the mystery Aidan Moore, who John had claimed had died in the army.
Some fans thought maybe the man in the bed was the real John Sugden, and John was in fact Aidan. This is a theory that has been shared for months, ever since John's debut in September last year.
Now the scene with the man in the hospital bed has only sparked further speculation that Aidan is alive and either in a coma, or he's posing as John. Taking to social media, one fan commented: "Without saying who it is... is that who I think it is?"
A fan replied to the comment: "I think it is, who you think it is." Giving a name, one fan suggested: "I reckon it could be Aidan Moore OR it's the real John Sugden, and John is actually Aidan."

This was echoed in another theory that read: "I reckon it’s the real John Sugden and who we think is John is actually Aidan Moore." Another fan commented: "I've thought for a while that John is actually Aidan, which I why he reacted so poorly to Vic finding the dog tags."
It comes as the previous episode saw John claiming to need some air as he acted oddly to Aaron wanting to plan their wedding. We then saw John at the scrapyard, smashing a van with a metal pole as he shouted out.
Viewers currently believe John is a secret serial killer and he may have killed Nate Robinson. They also think he's targeting other villagers including Chas Dingle and maybe Jacob Gallagher.
