Netflix's Wednesday confirms future after season 2 as boss teases 'more to explore'

Netflix’s hit supernatural drama Wednesday has officially been renewed for a third season, weeks before the second season is set to drop.

A spin-off from The Addams Family helmed by mastermind director Tim Burton, the kooky series follows the adventures of goth teen Wednesday Addams, brought to life by Jenna Ortega.

Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria told The Hollywood Reporter the show’s success “went beyond analytics: People watched it again and again and brought their parents into it, and it became a multigenerational show.

“There were soldiers in Ukraine doing the Wednesday dance.”

She also hinted at potential spin-offs set in the same universe, adding: “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”

The hit series created by showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar quickly became one of the streamer’s biggest shows upon its initial release in 2022.

Millions of fans are clamouring for the release of season two, which will drop in two parts beginning on 6th August, with the second volume arriving 3rd September.

Netflix’s renewal is great news for viewers who have been growing frustrated over the three-year wait for new episodes.

With a third season already in the works and a possible spin-off brewing, enthusiasts can stay rest assured that there’ll be no shortage of Addams Family content over the coming years.

Co-writer Gough has also teased the possibility of a Wednesday off-shoot, adding: “It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at.”

THR first reported the news that season three is in the works, which was then substantiated by a first-look poster shared by series star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who portrays Wednesday’s mother Morticia.

The teaser features Ortega in character with her disembodied hand sidekick Thing, holding a crystal ball brandishing the number “3”.

A tagline reads “Bad things come in threes”, while Zeta-Jones added in the Instagram post’s caption: “When Wednesday becomes a better day. Wednesday season 3. it’s official…. We shall return.”

The hit series also features Emma Myers as Wednesday's bubbly roommate Enid Sinclair, Luis Guzmán as her father Gomez and Christina Ricci, who portrayed Wednesday in the Addams Family films from the 1990s, as Marilyn Thornhill.

Season two will see Wednesday return to Nevermore Academy and further develop her psychic abilities while a sinister new threat tries to tear her friendship with Enid apart.
