Oscar Piastri laid down a marker in the title race, becoming the first multiple-time winner of the 2025 season by dominating the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Australian racer finished ahead of George Russell and Lando Norris on the podium, while Max Verstappen struggled down in sixth.

From sixth on the grid, Norris enjoyed an exceptional start and ended the opening tour around the Sakhir International Circuit in third place. However, the Brit's attempt to hunt down Russell was scuppered by a five-second time penalty for a false start. Fortunately for Norris, championship rival Verstappen was having an even worse time. After dropping places at the race start, the Dutchman's Red Bull machine started to overheat, and he lost ground to Esteban Ocon and Kimi Antonelli following a pit stop issue.

After losing track position from his front-row start, Ferrari opted to gamble their strategy and left Charles Leclerc out to go long on his first stint, along with team-mate Lewis Hamilton. This paid off when the early stoppers started to struggle on their medium compound tyres.

With strategies shuffled and the running order jumbled up, the safety car came out, giving the front four drivers a break from their tyre struggles. Kimi Antonelli and Verstappen both lost out, having pitted shortly beforehand.

Piastri controlled the restart to perfection, retaining the lead from Russell, while Norris squabbled with the two Ferrari drivers. The British racer squeezed past Leclerc to move onto the podium, but couldn't reel in the Mercedes man who was splitting the two McLaren stars.
