Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree pulled off the ultimate surprise when they turned up unexpectedly on a radio show, leaving the host visibly emotional. The husband-and-wife duo, beloved for their Channel 4 hit Escape to the Chateau, have won hearts worldwide with their unique mix of creativity, romance, and French chateau renovation magic.
But on this occasion, they swapped rural France for the bright lights of Sydney, walking into The Kyle and Jackie O Show studio to surprise its famously composed host, Kyle Sandilands. Kyle had previously insisted he "doesn't get starstruck," but when his co-host Jackie O walked in mid-interview and teased him with a "dream guest" reveal, his usually calm demeanour cracked as a clip from Escape to the Chateau was played. Moments later, Dick and Angel entered, leaving Kyle completely flabbergasted.
"Oh my goodness! I can't believe it," he exclaimed, admitting he felt like he was "going to cry" before giving the pair a warm hug. "Sorry, but I love your TV show... this is the best day ever."
Jackie was just as stunned by her co-host's reaction, telling listeners: "Kyle has met a million celebrities, but never have I seen him react like this." The Strawbridges also shared their enthusiasm for the radio show, as they commented on the programme's Instagram video of the encounter, typing: "What fun that was!"
First appearing on screens in 2016, Escape to the Chateau followed the couple and their two children as they relocated to France to restore a dilapidated 19th-century castle into both a home and a thriving events business. The show ran for nine series before wrapping in 2022, but Dick and Angel have kept fans hooked with live shows, podcasts, and regular social media updates from their life abroad.
The couple have recently rebranded and changed their Instagram handle from @the_chateau_tv to @thestrawbridgefamily, in a bid to distance themselves from the hit Channel 4 show that saw them become household names.
It comes after the network launched an independent investigation into the Strawbridges' conduct on "Escape to the Chateau," and consequently decided they did not want to work with them on any future productions. While the specific allegations haven't been detailed, reports suggest concerns raised by the production company Two Rivers Media and claims of clashes with producers.
The couple later acknowledged the situation in an Instagram post and shared that there are "two sides to every story".
