Gardeners urged to use watermelon peel juice to 'strengthen plants'

Gardeners have been urged to use one particular fruit as fertilizer for their plants. Important to enriching your soil with needed nutrients to encourage plant growth, TikTok creator 'lawsofgardening' claimed this inexpensive trick can save money spent in gardening supply stores and is easy to create in your own home. The key ingredient? Watermelon

Gaining nearly 10,000 views, the account captioned the video: "Watermelon peel juice will multiply your fruit harvest, bring more flowers for fruiting and strengthen your plants". The video showed the user pouring a mixture over her outdoor plants, the bowl including "a leftover watermelon rind in water" that the content creator claimed was left for a week to marinate.

The key being to leave the bowl in your fridge for the duration of the process.

The account with close to 5,500 followers shared that the fertilizer produced from the peel will be rich with magnesium, citrulline, and calcium, all of which are naturally found in the fruit.

Absorbed by the water, this easy method is perfect to feed your garden this Autumn.

Nitrogen and phosphorus are the additional key nutrients needed for plant growth, reports The Cooldown. Whilst these do not occur naturally by Laws of Gardening's method, the other necessary nutrients of magnesium and calcium are more than enough.

The remaining citrulline is an amino-acid watermellon rinds are full of, known to increase growth in plants, nutrient acquisition and chlorophyll concentration, stated by a journal of BioMetals. The nutrient, therefore, is proven to assist plant health as a whole.
