Arne Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak's half-time withdrawal during Liverpool's 5-1 rout of Eintracht Frankfurt was due to a possible groin injury. The Reds returned to winning ways in Germany courtesy of goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in the first half, added to by second-half finishes from Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai.
But Isak was taken off at half-time after a quiet first-half which saw him manage two shots on target but little else. And after Jeremie Frimpong was forced off injured 19 minutes in, Slot has shared that the £125million Swedish striker was also substituted due to a fitness concern.
Slot told TNT Sports: "Hugo got a big chance and he scored. Alex got a few chances but didn't score. He had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit. That's a pity. Unfortunately he had to go off so let's hope for the best."
The Dutchman added: "We needed to win. What we needed more is a performance where we created a lot of chances and the players get their reward with a win. That's what happened today.
"I saw a lot of similarities today compared to our other games. The first chance they got, and maybe the only chance they got, was immediately a goal. Again hardly conceded anything.
"The main difference in this game was that we were able to score two set-pieces. Ekitike has done well for us every time he's played. I saw players working really hard including Hugo."
