Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's renewed deal with Netflix will "concern" the Royal Family, an expert has said. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Monday they are continuing their partnership with the streaming giant on a first-look "multi-year" deal, which reportedly means the couple will present ideas to Netflix before any other streaming company.
The news comes just weeks after it was rumoured that Harry, 40, and Meghan, 44, were not set to have their five-year deal with Netflix, signed in 2020, renewed. While many of the couple's fans are delighted for the couple, this is not set to be the case for the Royal Family, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams. This is because the royals reportedly "don't trust" them.
Mr Fitzwilliams exclusively told Express.co.uk: "They (Harry and Meghan) will obviously welcome the new Netflix deal as far as it goes, but it may well be for far less than the original was.
"They have a brand which has considerable reach but one must ask, is the new deal a figleaf to hide their failure to be A-listers in Hollywood?
"Bela Bajaria, Netflix's Content Officer, whilst praising the Sussexes, laid special emphasis on how popular 'Harry and Meghan', their kiss and tell series where they gave viewers a unique glimpse into their personal lives and also attacked the Royal Family, was.
"Let's just hope, as things seem so uncertain for them, that they aren't planning another such series!"
Discussing how the Royal Family will feel about the Netflix deal Harry and Meghan have secured, Mr Fitzwilliams said: "This will concern the Royal Family as they don't trust the Sussexes and they did it (a damaging series) before. It is sadly all too clear that, however deplorable it is, it would be very lucrative."
At the moment, Harry and Meghan are believed to have no plans to release a docuseries similar to Harry and Meghan, which was very critical of the monarchy.
Instead, it is believed Meghan will continue working with the streaming giant on her "With Love, Meghan" series, which will include a Christmas special episode.
It has also been announced that another project the couple are working on with Netflix is 'Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within', which will also air this year. As reported by People, Harry and Meghan's adaptation of the bestselling novel, Meet Me at the Lake, is still reportedly a potential project. The Royal Family have not publicly acknowledged the couple's renewed Netflix deal.
