Queen Elizabeth II had only "one remark" about the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes' wedding plans, according to a royal author. The relationship Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had with Elizabeth II has returned under the spotlight in recent days, following claims made by a respected royal author, Sally Bedell Smith, who published extracts from her conversations with a confidante of the late monarch, Lady Elizabeth Anson.
Glimpses of the relationship between the Sussexes and the beloved monarch, however, had already emerged over the years, with another commentator, Ingrid Seward, previously claiming Queen Elizabeth had rarely "voiced her true opinions" with anybody during her life but with people very close to her, such as Lady Elizabeth. In her book My Mother and I, Ms Seward reported a conversation with Lady Elizabeth, claiming: "She told me that the Queen had made only one remark about Meghan and Harry's wedding and that was that Meghan's Givenchy wedding gown was 'too white'." She added: "In the monarch's view, it was not appropriate for a divorcee getting remarried in church to look quite so flamboyantly virginal." The Duchess of Sussex had previously been married to a Hollywood film producer, from whom she divorced in 2014.
