Wickes to shut 221 stores for 24 hours - but 6 will stay open

Retailer will be closing its doors for an entire day next weekend as many major chains across the UK will operate on reduced hours. Next Sunday, the company will be shutting every store across England and Wales for 24 hours, giving its employees a well-earned day off for the .

However, the company's six branches in will remain open, with staff required to work normal hours. In England and Wales, large shops spanning over 280 square metres must legally close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. However, there are no trading hours restrictions in Scotland which is why Wickes will continue to trade next Sunday.

The opening hours for Wickes on Easter weekend in England and Wales are:

  • Good Friday: 7am-8pm
  • Saturday: 7am-7pm
  • Easter Sunday: Closed (England and Wales), 7am-7pm (Scotland)
  • Easter Monday: 7am-8pm

In Scotland, the hours will differ. The opening times are:

  • Friday, April 18: 7am - 8pm
  • Saturday, April 19: 7am - 7pm
  • Sunday, April 20: 7am - 8pm
  • Monday, April 21: 7am - 8pm

Local branches may vary from the times outlined above, therefore it's worth checking the company's website to find the opening hours of your nearest store.

Other DIY retailers will be closing their doors for 24 hours too. B&Q will open on Good Friday from 7am to 8pm and on Saturday from 7am to 8pm.

However, stores will be closed for the entire day on Easter Sunday. This excludes stores in Scotland, where the doors will open from 9am to 6pm. On Easter Monday, stores should operate from 7am to 8pm, yet some may open an hour later.

Most of ScrewFix's 900 branches will be closed on Easter Sunday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, yet stores in Scotland and Ireland will remain open. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the retailer will be open, yet it is advised to check the website to find the opening hours of your local branch.
