Indian actress Mrunal Thakur has spoken out for the first time about persistent rumours linking her to Tamil superstar Dhanush. The chatter began after they were seen together on several occasions, quickly spreading through both Bollywood and Kollywood circles. Many interpreted these sightings as the beginning of a new romance but the actress has now made it clear that there is nothing of the sort.
In an interview, Mrunal Thakur dismissed the claims with humour, making it clear that her connection with Dhanush is purely friendly. She described him as a good friend and found the ongoing gossip more amusing than concerning. She further stressed that there is no romantic angle to their bond.
Addressing one of the main triggers for the speculation, Mrunal Thakur explained that Dhanush’s appearance at the Son of Sardaar 2 screening had nothing to do with her. Contrary to assumptions, it was Ajay Devgn who invited him and not her. She felt it was important to set the record straight to avoid any further misunderstanding.
The rumours gained traction when Mrunal Thakur was spotted at the wrap-up celebration for Tere Ishq Mein, a project featuring Dhanush and directed by Aanand L Rai. Their brief interaction at the Son of Sardaar 2 event also circulated widely online, adding fuel to the gossip. Even her recent decision to follow Dhanush’s sisters on Instagram was interpreted as a sign of deeper ties, though neither actor has shared details about their private lives.
Dhanush, previously married to director Aishwarya Rajinikanth for 18 years, separated from her in 2022. The former couple has two children — Linga and Yatra.
While speculation among fans shows no signs of fading completely, Mrunal Thakur’s candid remarks have made her stance clear, the bond she shares with Dhanush is one of friendship and nothing more.
