Former Bangladesh cricket captain Aminul Islam has been appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board , replacing Faruque Ahmed amid political changes in the country. The 57-year-old was selected by BCB directors on Friday and will serve until October.
"This is a new high for me," said Aminul, who is widely known as "Bulbul" and led Bangladesh in their first World Cup appearance in 1999.

Aminul, who scored Bangladesh's first Test century, has been working in development roles with the International Cricket Council and Asian Cricket Council since retiring as a player.
The leadership change follows the resignation of previous BCB president Nazmul Hassan, who was aligned with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina . Hasina was ousted in August 2024, escaping by helicopter as protestors stormed her palace.
The cricket board's transition comes at a challenging time for Bangladesh cricket, with the national team recently suffering a disappointing T20 series loss to the United Arab Emirates.
