VARANASI: Six police personnel were suspended and another five sent to district lines after a BJP worker died in police lathicharge in Ghazipur district Thursday. The district police chief has requested the DM to order a magisterial probe into the alleged police action.
On Tuesday afternoon, a protest over power crisis at Nonhara reportedly turned violent and police rained batons at demonstrators, injuring 7-8 people, including BJP worker Siyaram Upadhyay, alias Jokhu Upadhyay (35). His death later sparked public outrage. Siyaram’s family alleged police brutality led to his death and demanded justice and legal action against the officers responsible for it.
