The emotionally-charged memorial service for the slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk witnessed lighthearted moments with Donald Trump's little dance making teary-eyed Erika smile. Standing together on stage before thousands, the two swayed gently and lip-synced along.
Kirk’s memorial, with Trump hailing him as a key force behind his 2024 victory, brought together tens of thousands of mourners, among them Vice President JD Vance, senior administration leaders, and a generation of young conservatives shaped by the 31-year-old firebrand.
During his tribute speech to Kirk, Trump hailed him as a "martyr" and that too for "America’s freedom."
“He’s a martyr now for America’s freedom,” he said, adding, “I know I speak for everyone here today when I say that none of us will ever forget Charlie. And neither now will history.”
Moreover, during her address, Erika said that she forgave Kirk's shooter. “My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life,” she said, adding, “I forgive him.”
Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, has been charged in the killing of Kirk and could face the death penalty if convicted. Authorities have yet to confirm a motive, though prosecutors note that Robinson reportedly told his partner in a text after the shooting that he had “enough” of Kirk’s hatred.
