'Revenge on Ukraine': Suspect in Kyiv lawmaker's murder admits guilt; denies working for Russia

Man charged of murdering a Ukrainian lawmaker has admitted to the guilt but denied working for Russian authorities. He called it a "personal revenge" on the Ukrainian authorities.

"This is my personal revenge on the Ukrainian authorities," AFP quoted the suspect saying, citing local media.

Ukrainian lawmaker and ex-speaker of parliament Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv on Saturday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced the incident as a "horrific murder."

"Ukraine’s minister of internal affairs Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported the first known circumstances of the horrendous murder in Lviv. Andriy Parubiy was killed. My condolences to his family and loved ones. All necessary forces and means are engaged in the investigation and search for the killer," he had said.
