The nationwide strike called on Wednesday by trade unions to protest against the Centre’s alleged anti-labour, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate policies had minimal impact in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Daily business, transport services, and public activities remained largely unaffected in most parts of the region.
In Mangaluru, workers and employees gathered at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle, shouting slogans against the Union Government’s policies. A protest meeting was later held at Clock Tower. Protests also took place across several taluks in the district.
At the Old Port wholesale market, many workers expressed their solidarity with the strike by refraining from work for the day.
In Udupi district, protests were held in Kundapura, Byndoor, and Udupi town, with several labour unions coming together for joint demonstrations.
A gathering was organized in front of the main post office in Udupi, after which a memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister through the superintendent of post offices. Similarly, employees of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) protested in front of the divisional office in Ajjarkad, submitting a memorandum highlighting their grievances.
In Udupi city, protesters briefly blocked roads before proceeding with a peaceful march, but there were no traffic jams or disruption to public movement. The strike did not lead to a complete shutdown, and normal life continued as usual.
Officials reported that the day passed without any major incidents, and law and order remained intact across the region.
