New BMW Sports Tourer to Replace the R 1250 RS

BMW Motorrad has officially teased the upcoming BMW R 1300 RS, set to debut globally on April 29, 2025. Positioned as the successor to the acclaimed R 1250 RS, the new R 1300 RS is expected to deliver enhanced performance and a sportier design, reinforcing BMW’s commitment to the premium sports touring segment.

BMW R 1300 RS: Engine and Performance

The BMW R 1300 RS will draw power from the same 1,300 cc engine currently offered on the R 1300 R, R 1300 GS, and R 1300 GS Adventure models. The advanced twin-cylinder boxer engine is tuned to produce approximately 145 bhp and 149 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter for seamless gear changes.

This powertrain upgrade promises a significant boost in both performance and touring capability compared to its predecessor, making it ideal for riders who seek spirited rides over long distances.

BMW R 1300 RS: Design and Features

While the R 1300 RS remains under wraps until the official unveiling, expectations are high for a more aggressive design language with aerodynamically optimized fairings and sportier aesthetics compared to the outgoing R 1250 RS. BMW is likely to equip the R 1300 RS with cutting-edge technology, including:

  • Advanced electronic rider aids

  • Multiple riding modes

  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)

  • Cornering ABS

  • Adaptive cruise control (expected)

These features will ensure the R 1300 RS remains at the forefront of the sport-touring category, combining comfort, speed, and control.

India Launch Plans Unclear

As of now, BMW Motorrad India has not confirmed if or when the R 1300 RS will be launched in the Indian market. However, given the brand’s strong premium motorcycle portfolio in India and the popularity of the R 1250 RS among enthusiasts, there remains a strong possibility of an India launch at a later date.
