4 Dead in Delhi as Tree Collapses on Room During Storm; Multiple Weather-Related Incidents Reported

New Delhi, May 2, 2025 — A tragic weather-related accident in Delhi claimed the lives of a mother and her three children on Thursday morning as a fierce storm swept across the national capital, triggering several incidents of damage and casualties.

According to the Delhi Police, the incident occurred in Kharkhari Nahar village in Dwarka, where strong winds caused a large tree to collapse onto a small room built over a tubewell in an agricultural field. Four members of a family died, including 26-year-old Jyoti and her three children. Her husband, Ajay, sustained minor injuries.

Severe Storm Hits Delhi, Multiple Casualty Reports

The sudden storm brought with it high-velocity winds and heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread disruption across several areas in Delhi. In Jaffarpur Kalan, another tree fell on a residential building, raising fears of people being trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are underway to search for survivors.

In Chhawla, part of a house’s roof collapsed, trapping four individuals beneath the rubble. Emergency teams managed to rescue all four after a challenging operation.

Additionally, in the Sabzi Mandi area, a lightning strike reportedly ignited a fire at a residential property, prompting a swift response from fire and emergency services.

Authorities on High Alert as Storm Wreaks Havoc

Municipal authorities and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority are closely monitoring the situation. Emergency response teams have been deployed across the affected zones to assess damage and provide relief. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of continued unpredictable weather, including thunderstorms and gusty winds in the coming days.

The city’s civic agencies have advised residents to stay indoors during adverse weather conditions, avoid sheltering under trees, and report any unsafe structures or fallen objects immediately.
