Winds are expected to reach speeds of 50 kilometers per hour, prompting safety advisories for residents in affected regions.

Stormy Sunday for Northern Plains

Thunderstorm activity continues across much of North India as western disturbances remain active. The IMD warns of:

• Heavy rainfall

• Frequent lightning

• High-speed winds (up to 50 km/h)

Regions such as Meerut, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, and Bareilly in western UP are under immediate alert. This comes after widespread thunderstorms affected several states over the past 24 hours.

Hailstorms were reported in J&K, Ladakh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha, while heavy rainfall was observed in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Upcoming Heatwave and Rainfall Pattern

After April 20, rainfall will decrease across many northern areas. However, new weather developments include:

• Vidarbha (April 21–23): Heatwave alert

• Southern UP & MP (April 22–24): High temperatures expected

• Rajasthan & South Haryana (April 23–24): Heatwave conditions likely

Meanwhile, northeast India — including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya — is set for heavy rainfall from April 22 to 24.

South and West India: Rain and Dust Storms Ahead

In southern India, rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the next five days in:

• Interior Karnataka

• Coastal Andhra Pradesh

• Yanam

• Rayalaseema

• Kerala and Mahe

• Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal

Today, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra, and Assam are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

In western India, dust storms are likely across parts of Gujarat today.
